My Morning Routine
Getting my morning off to the right start is one of the best things I can do for myself, my family, and those who depend on me! I’m not gonna lie I am not inherently a morning person, I’m not supper consistent when it comes to this, and I’m always tweaking this routine/rhythm. Not every day goes like this, and thats okay! Anyone who is in a season of nursing babies and sick kids, knows that sometimes after 5+ feeding sessions in the middle of the night you are not going to want to get up before the sun does. Girl that is totally okay! Give yourself some grace and catch a few more z’s.
However coming up with a rhythm that can work for you (most days) can help you reset your sanity, make you a better wife, mom, friend, and coworker! Here is what my ideal morning looks like. Click here for a free guide on how to create your own ideal morning!
The Night Before
Dishes – HAVE to get loaded in the dishwasher
I know I said morning routine, but there are a couple of things I have to do at night to set myself up for success in the morning. The first thing is dishes. I have really tried to make this a non negotiable task for myself. There are a few reasons why they have to get done.
- Everything feels better when you already have something marked off your to do list before you even get up in the morning.
- We wont have any clean break fast dishes if they aren’t done.
- It starts my husbands day off better. On my husbands days on, he gets up and leaves the house before 6 am. Plus he’s not waking me up trying to wash a bowl with a sink full of dirty pots and pans at 5 am.
For those reasons I load up the dishwasher, no matter how many or few dishes are in the sink. If hubby hasn’t taken his shower for the night I will delay the wash cycle so he can have some hot water.
My Perfect(ish) Morning Routine
7:01 am -Alarm set for
Yeah odd time but thats what I set my crazy awesome alarm clock to the first time I set it up, so it has stuck.
Lately the lil guy has been waking up to nurse around 6-6:30 some days I will just go ahead and be up for the day after he nurses himself to sleep, other mornings I’m in need of those extra 10-30 mins of sleep before I get up for reals.
Coffee and Dishes
As soon as I get up I pop my favorite coffee k cup (Jamaican Me Crazy) in the Keurig and unload the dishes while it brews. I would just be standing there watching my coffee cup fill up any way, so I might as well spend those 2 minutes unloading the dishes!
7:05 am- Rhythm Starts
Devotional, Yoga, Meditation, Brain Dumping, Daily Schedule, Shower
If I can get most of that, if not all of that done in the morning I am a powerhouse of productivity that day!
Devotional
My current daily devotional I’m working through is the Daily Wisdom for Women Morning and Evening I’m not gonna lie I have not been perfect at reading through this every morning and night. But I’m working on it! Another devotional type book I’ve worked through, is the On Purpose Wife. It’s a 28-day Christian marriage challenge and devotional was written for wives who want to turn off auto-pilot and intentionally pursue a deeper relationship with God and their husband.
Yoga
I started my yoga journey in college at the community center. I fell in love with a class called power yoga. Power yoga is a fast paced class that is set to music. Those double ab tracks will get you in shape fast! Since becoming a mom, and moving out the the farm away from any awesome community centers, I’ve had to find some at home workouts. About two years ago I found Yoga with Adriene on YouTube! As of 10.18.17 she has over 340 free yoga videos on her channel. She has everything from quick 10 minute and shorter workouts all the way to 30 day yoga practices! Something for everyone! She also has a paid mobile app that has even more content! You can even download videos to watch later when you don’t have internet access!
Meditation
I love the headspace app! They have seriously upped their game in the passed 6 months too! There are packs you can work through that focus on things like health topics like anxiety, stress, sleep, depression, and pregnancy. There is also the brave category wish packs like regret, anger, change, and restlessness. Other categories include happiness, work and performance, students, headspace pro, and sports. Thats just there packs! The singles page on the app covers things like a daily single, waking up, falling asleep and one of my favorites the SOS. They SOS singles have definitely helped me keep my cool when it comes to dealing with kids, and just life and general! Taking just a minute or two to create some space, and gain perspective can do so much good in so many ways! Brain Dumping
This isn’t something I do every day, but usually about once a week! I have a few different ways of doing this depending on how full my week ahead looks, or how overwhelmed I’m feeling that day! The first way I tend to do my braid dumps is with some old fashion pen and paper. Sometimes I need to just get the ideas out of my mind and on to paper. Another way I like to do this is with trello. Trello is a fantastic free site and app that you can use to create lists and notes. If I had to explain trello to someone its like if Evernote, and Pinterest had a lovechild. Trello is great for organizing ideas for businesses, blogs, and even keeping track of meals and family schedules. Plus it looks pretty too! I’ll be doing a few posts on Trello soon so be on the look out for those!
Daily Schedule
I love using my Day Designer Planner to write out my todo list, and block out time for everything that needs to get done. the Day Designer also has a spot for Today’s Top Three were you can prioritize the top three things you wan to get done for the day. Other things I fill out on the Day Designer are things due today, dinner, and the don’t forget boxes. At the end of the day I try to go back and fill out the daily graduated box. Again it doesn’t happen every day but I’m working on it!!
So there you have it my ideal perfect(ish) morning routine!
